<FONT face=Arial size=4>Ones of the inspirations for the Broadway Musical Fantasy Camp is the spirit of Al Jolson (right), who was considered the first great Broadway musical star and was called "The World's Greatest Entertainer." Jolson is also a hero of BMFC's founder and producer Stephen Hanks.

<FONT face=Arial size=4>Hanks, who has also performed in the three previous BMFC shows, came up with the idea of the BMFC after taking classes on Broadway theater at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan. "I found so many like-minded people in those classes," Hanks says, "that I wanted to create something where we would all have an opportunity to live out our musical performing fantasies without any pressure or judgements. The results have been amazing. The performers have ranged in age from early 20s to late 70s and a really strong bond develops. We all learn from the professionals who teach us and from each other."

<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=4>Guest director/choreographers have included Producer/Director Bick Goss, a former Bob Fosse dancer who is currently the Producing Director of Musical Monday's in New York, a developmental workshop for new musical productions. BMFC has also worked with Ginger Prince, a vivacious, veteran performer, who has appeared on Broadway in Gypsy, Pippin, Steel Magnolias, La Cage Aux Folles and Ain't Broadway Grand. Ginger has worked with the cast of previous fantasy camps and did a superb job "choreographing" movement for the women's numbers in Guys and Dolls. And in past years, stars such as Judy Kaye and Fiddler on the Roof book writer, Joe Stein, have worked with or inspired our participants.
