BROADWAY MUSICAL
FANTASY CAMP

Welcome to The Broadway Musical Fantasy Camp website. If you're reading this you are likely one of the tens of thousands of people in the New York City area who has always dreamed about performing in a classic Broadway musical. If you're a woman, you have fantasized about being Laurie in Oklahoma or Mama Rose in Gypsy. If you're a man, you've thought about what it might be like to be one of the gamblers in Guys and Dolls or to be Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof. If that describes you then you've come to the right place to live out your performing fantasy.

The Broadway Musical Fantasy Camp was conceived in the spring of 2002. It is intended as a fun and educational musical theater workshop geared to motivated amateurs and aspiring professionals who have always dreamed about performing in a Broadway musical production. No previous performing experience is required; however, cast members audition for lead roles and all cast members pay a fee of $375.00 for the workshop. The workshop consists of 12 weekly rehearsals that last for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours per rehearsal and are held on weekday evenings in Manhattan. An experienced director and musical director guide the cast (which ranges in age from 18 to 80). Campers receive invaluable advice and encouragement from experienced theater professionals currently working in Broadway or off-Broadway productions.

Now you're probably wondering two things: Do I have to have a great voice? Do I have to memorize lines? The answer is NO to both questions. Although some cast members have had some experience performing, either in amateur productions, school shows or choruses, everyone in the cast is an amateur or aspiring professional and is not required to be a professional singer or performer. While the leads should be able to carry a tune and have some stage presence, nobody who auditions is turned away. Memorizing lines isn't required because we perform a staged reading of the show, a la the City Center "Encores" shows. Our shows are done "on book" with little choreography, minimal costuming and almost no props. We want this to be a pressure-free and fun experience.
